Dirt. Five year olds love it, plants can’t live without it, and you’re breathing it in every day. Not just breathing it in – you’re paying to inhale the largest cause of your home’s dust and allergy problems.
You’re probably thinking that’s an exaggeration. But the simple truth is that you are paying to run your heating and cooling system, more and more as the weather heats up. And since dirt is the number one cause of system failure – 90% of all failures, in fact – chances are good that dirt is keeping your system from running at peak efficiency.
Before you invest in a family set of gas masks or prepare for a nomadic existence in the Sahara (hey, at least then you won’t be paying for the dirt), you might want to give your heating and cooling professional a call.
“Your system works hard,” says Noah of Star Quality Air Conditioning. “It’s constantly circulating and cooling the air that keeps your family comfortable. Like anything else that works, it gets dirty and has to be cleaned.”
There are a few questions to ask yourself before having your system cleaned:
How long has it been since your HVAC system was cleaned?
Are there pets in the home?
Do any family members experience burning in the eyes, nose, or throat while in the home?
Does your climate have high humidity?
Do any family members show symptoms of mild to severe allergies?
Noah told us “System failures caused by dirt, as well as expensive repairs, can be avoided with a little preventative maintenance. Most people don’t realize how much money they can save by making sure their system runs efficiently.”
Star Quality Air Conditioning wants to show homeowners certain neglected maintenance items that can lead to thousands of dollars in repairs or system replacements.

Once you experience the energy-efficient cooling power of a ceiling fan, you won’t want to live without one.
Ceiling fans have become more technologically advanced and are an important part of creating the perfect home décor. They are a great source of energy-efficient climate control; spring, summer, fall and winter.
In the summer months, a ceiling fan cools a room up to seven degrees by creating a “wind chill” effect. And for those hot, humid days of summer, there’s nothing more wonderful than a cool breeze.
In the winter months, run your fan in reverse to recirculate the hot air trapped near the ceiling. And by setting your thermostat lower, you’ll save on heating costs as the fan provides even, comfortable temperatures throughout the room.
Ceiling fans can be used in all of the main rooms in your home, patios, verandas, kitchens and bathrooms.
Summer Comfort:
Fans spins counter-clockwise. Cools by creating a wind-chill effect. Save on air conditioning
Winter Comfort:
Fans spins clockwise. Recirculates heat from the ceiling to the living area below. Save on heating bills. Reduce your energy bill and stay comfortable too!
Due to the rising energy costs of cooling and heating your home, this is the perfect time to experience the benefits of owning a ceiling fan. Installing a ceiling fan(s) in your home makes perfect sense because it improves your heating and cooling systems efficiency. You will drastically save on your energy bill up to 40% in the summer and 10% in the winter, using only as much as energy as a 100 watt light bulb. Either way, you conserve valuable energy, making a ceiling fan a wise investment for you and the environment.
A ceiling fan can pay for itself very quickly. According to statistics, it costs only a penny an hour to run a ceiling fan versus 43¢ an hour to run a central air conditioner; or 16¢ an hour to run a room air conditioner. You save money every day you use a ceiling fan - 365 days a year.

Looking for a good air conditioning contractor? First rule is: take your time! It will take some time and research to find a good air conditioning contractor, but it will be worth it. You want your contractor to be knowledgeable enough to offer a good range of products to choose from… and be able to answer any of your questions fully and professionally.
The majority of air conditioning manufacturers offer a range of products, and many of the manufacturers build their parts with the same parts, so get at least three quotes from similar contractors. Beware of bids that are too low, because those dollars are likely to be cut out somewhere, maybe with bad installation or design.
Of course, there are many air conditioning contractors out there who claim to do the best job, but only a few are actually skilled in the profession. Research the local market and get a good idea of the different products that are out there. Discuss it with your neighbors and friends and see if they can recommend anyone, but then follow it up by doing your own investigating.
Most importantly, find out how long they’ve been in business and get references. Then, compare the contractors’ quotes for capacity and quality equipment. Also, know what kind of air conditioning you want before you sign a deal with any contractor. Sounds obvious, but if you have a clear idea of what’s available and what you want, you’re in a much stronger bargaining position with the contractor.
Some things to think about when seeking out a contractor is whether you choose a smaller or larger business. Smaller contractors often charge less for labor and will fix your unit at a minimal cost, while larger companies tend to have more employees on staff and often work 24 hours a day. Finally, think about after the air conditioner is installed.
After you’ve made your choice, you want to be sure to get a signed contract and warranty statement in order to see that what needs to be done is completed. Then, ask for a completed start-up report after the unit is installed. Most manufacturers provide a commissioning check list with that important equipment information.
